2008 Holidays

Here at the midpoint of my year off, I enjoyed weeks of holidays:
  • I got into Durham just before Thanksgiving. Aileen was a lovely hostess, and we had a nice dinner in her apartment. (Some photos of family.) Then I spent the daylight hours with doctor, dentist and camper appointments - the later of which turned out to be quite an adventure. I also got to dance with my home group. Wow. I'd almost forgotten how good this community is. The last night I danced to the Morrison Brothers. Really really good.
  • On my way to Alabama for Christmas, I stopped to visit with Joellen in Greensboro. She was pretty busy, but took time to lead me on a four mile walk! I enjoyed seeing how she'd fixed up her third floor apartment. I left Greensboro on Tuesday so that I could dance in Winston-Salem - to Morrison Brothers again! Then I drove on to Tryon to visit with Heather.
  • Heather took me for a short walk near her home - which is in a great location. She can walk to work, to the grocery store, to a nice park... and there's some good dancing nearby. We went to a small sort-of new dance in Greenville, and then to a really great (really great) dance up towards Asheville. Guess who the band was? Yep: the Morrison Brothers! I assured the band that I wasn't stalking them - but they liked the idea of having a groupie :-) That turned into a bit of an adventure when we found the main road was blocked so believed my GPS and took backroads, from Bat Cave up to - oh shoot - I forgot the name of the little town. But anyhow - it was hands down the windiest road I've ever driven. Here are a few photos of us at these dances.
  • I got to Alabama in time for all of the wonderful gatherings... but decided that it wasn't appropriate to post all those photos here. Family and friends who want to see those photos should email me for the secret link!
