Dingmans Falls on River Road along Delaware Water Gap

Before the main attraction was this preview falls, which was rather sweet. Narrow water but sharp edges cut through this Northern rock.

A closer look at the Silver Thread.

This is the kind of water that I want to walk in. Maybe if I can figure out how to tour the US a second time, the focus will be on creek walking instead of contra dancing. Well, OK, not *instead of*, but *in addition to*.
IMGP1557.JPG
They do a good job here with the walkways. They protect the land from all of these clad feet - and look good at the same time.
IMGP1557a.JPG
They were so polite about it.
IMGP1561.JPG
I'm sure I've seen the seed pods for a rhodadendron before (although clearly I can't spell it), but these struck me as strange and wonderful.
IMGP1562.JPG
A close-up thereof.
IMGP1565.JPG
And here it is: Dingmans Falls (yes, apparently spelled with no apostrophes). It was quite the nicest waterfall (so far) on my trip.
IMGP1567.JPG
I liked this little rebel streak...
IMGP1568.JPG
... enough to include two shots of it!
IMGP1569.JPG
I tried to get just the top half to show how the water is so brown as it comes over the top, then (I assume) the air that mixes in causes it to look whiter. But yes, the still water was downright brown. Not iron, according to the locals who were there, but tannin. I dunno, but I'm glad I didn't need to drink it!
IMGP1570.JPG
So here's the brown even better, though the photo's not as good
IMGP1572.JPG
And here's the bottom half close-up. I like the ribbon-y look, and so wanted to be in the water to feel that run off.
IMGP1573.JPG
This led from the bottom to the top of the falls.
IMGP1574.JPG
This is the view from the top, which doesn't show the water very well, but does get that sense of HEIGHT!
IMGP1575.JPG
Now you see some water.
IMGP1577.JPG
I was glad someone was down there, to show scale.
IMGP1577b.JPG
I tried for an artsy shot and it sorta worked.
IMGP1577c.JPG
And this little waterfall was above the grand one that was seen from below. Very nice, I thought. I like the rounded shelf just before the big crash.
IMGP1581.JPG
This log caught my eye on the way down. I could tell there was an opening on the lower right side but it was too dark inside to actually see through it... but not too dark, it turned out, for my flash to illuminate. Kinda cool, eh? I don't know what the white wormy looking things are. Probably worms.
IMGP1584.JPG
OK, so there's nothing all that unusual about a granddaddy longlegs, but do you see the ant too?
IMGP1586.JPG
Now he's upside down and stiller. I wonder if those spots on the legs really are joints, or just marking. (And of course "he": grandDADDY, ya know!)
last.JPG
This is clearly an error... but I like the result.
