Cumberland Dance Week takes place at the Kentucky Leadership Center, south of
Jabel, which is near Nancy, KY.
While the success of this week is based mostly on the people, who bring
the music and the dance and the joy, the surroundings are also important.
This space works well.

The Kentucky Leadership Center is also a 4-H camp, and is way out in
the boonies, but very comfortable - and towel service every day! I loved the
stone work and the wood, and the porches were eeryone's favorite hangout place,
from the kids on their bikes and scooters, to the adults in the rockers. PS:
Do you see me reflected in the window, taking the shot?

This was the main room, where we ate and held all of the big dances.

Here's a close up of the quilt in the "main room" at the
Kentucky Leadership Center. The pattern is called, appropriately,
"Kentucky" and it's done in the colors of University of Kentucky.
Maybe they're Berea's colors too?

The fireplace was the site of lovely pre-lunch sharing. I took this as
it was raining, can you tell? Everyone else was in class, but I was taking my
once-a-day one-hour break.

The rockers were popular with everyone, but it was a special place for
the adults after the late night dance. I never had enough energy to join them,
since I love my breakfast, and came to rely on the Bob-led post-breakfast
stretches, but I know that in doing so I missed out on a big part of the CDW
culture. Maybe next time...

It rained during some during the day, which caused us to cancel the
bonfire with marshmallows. That was OK with me. I couldn't get excited about a
bonfire in July :)
