Walden Pond in October

I stopped here on my way to Walden Pond 'cuz the gas was cheap - and it turned out to be "full service"! How weird!

This was the lowest price I'd seen in a long time. (Oct 17, 2008)

This is the beach on Walden Pond...

... and so is this. I couldn't decide which photo is better so included both. Sorry 'bout that.

I sure had good luck with timing...

... getting peak foliage wherever I went.

I like trying this kind of shot: near stuff framing the distance.

Another candidate for a Christmas card.

This is how they have the trail set up now - must more restricted that 20 years ago, to control erosion.

There are lots of these "cut downs" to give access to the pond for swimmers.

A view of the beach from further around the pond.

I liked this lining of downed leaves.

See the dragon fly? I didn't until just now!

Now it's called a "house" instead of a "hut"?

The famouse quote, which is somewhat mitigated by the fact that he walked home every week to eat his Mom's apple pie :-)

There is a tradition of folks bringing stones to a cairn hear this site, mostly in rememberence of loved ones who have died.

I took this for my friends who like birch trees.

This one captures, for me, the feel of that walk.

OK, maybe this one's better :-)

See how I caught the wind on the water?

Red could become my favorite color if I spent enough time here.
