Week 15: Lake George revisited

It was nice to come back to Lake George Escape RV Park, a place I already knew, even though it has some big faults - mainly, having no indoor space for me to be.
  • Monday was laundry and camp site work, then I drove into Lake George for groceries and another walk around Lake George, this time with cloud cover. I also walked through the Lake George Battleground.
  • Tuesday I hiked Pilot's Knob, a conservation area with a nice view of the lake at the top. In one of those lucky twists, I failed to find the trail to the waterfall, which meant I got back to Lake George in time for the last boat trip on the Mohican. I took lots of pictures:
  • Wednesday I spent on maintenance and staying out of the rain.
  • Thursday was such a great day that I decided to record some of the details, for my future enjoyment. You can read those comments here. The main event of the day was a ride on the Upper Hudson Rail Road. Toot toot! I recorded some sounds on my MacBook but haven't figured out yet how to share them. I do, however, have lots of photos.
    • First: North Creek depot, the train and the folks in charge.
    • Next: the turnaround at Riverside - and they let me ride in the locomotive :-)
    • Finally: photos taken during the ride.
  • Friday I drove across Vermont and New Hampshire (and got some photos through the van windows) to get to Moody Beach, Maine (between Ogunquit and Wells).

Part way across Vermont I remembered that I wanted to stop at at The Vermont Country Store, so I pulled over and asked my GPS to take me there. As I turned onto a new road, I suddenly realized that I was at Killington, the resort where I took myself one Christmas to learn how to downhill ski. Here are photos from back then, and here is the photo I got of the sign as I drove by.

I was busy remembering those good days when I suddenly realized I was near Plymouth, VT, which is near Farm and Wilderness... and then, around the next bend, there it was: the entrance to F&W! I was too surprised to take a photo, but enjoyed looking at the lake and spotting various buildings through the woods.

When I finally got to the Vermont Country Store, I spent some money on presents, enjoyed a lot of free food samples, got myself a new dance skirt, and took photos of toys that I did not buy.

Finding the campground was tricky. The address in the booklet said it is in the town of Moody... but my GPS doesn't think Maine has such a town. So I tried putting in the latitude and longitude... and my GPS said "You can get there from here" in a Maine accent. (Not really, but that would've been so cool!) So I tried to call, but got an answering machine. So I headed for Ogunquit, knowing that the campground was nearby, then used the map in the booklet for the last 20 miles or so, getting here in time to set up camp and take a walk around the grounds before taking a long sleep.
