Cape Cod Canal

IMGP2385.JPG
This is the Railroad Bridge over the Cape Cod Canal... and that's my magic bus!
IMGP2381.JPG
I couldn't get close to the end-plate so maybe you can't see, but the symbol is a three-tower castle!
IMGP2336.JPG
It was like a big erector set.
IMGP2375.JPG
Nice looking bridge, I thought.
IMGP2347.JPG
This gives you a sense of the width of the canal.
IMGP2348.JPG
The birds were doing a lot of this wing-waving, apparently enjoying the wind as much as I was.
IMGP2353.JPG
These guys were so still for so long that I just had to take a picture...
IMGP2358.JPG
...which seemd to cause the guy on the right to turn his head.
IMGP2359.JPG
This sailboat reminded me of the trip that I made with some MITRE friends, some 30 years ago. Maybe we even passed through the canal?
IMGP2361.JPG
This is the Bourne bridge. There's a large campground on my left and 6 or 8 groups of folks from there were sitting in lawn chairs and watching the canal.

IMGP2364.JPG
Who can resist shooting from under a bridge?
IMGP2365.JPG
Not me, apparently!
IMGP2366.JPG
Sturdy legs.
IMGP2367.JPG
With serious warnings posted.
IMGP2371.JPG
An egret? Whatever it was...
IMGP2372.JPG
... it took to flight as I tried for a closer shot. It seemed much less accustomed to humans than the gulls and ducks.
IMGP2374.JPG
Only on the walk back did I realized that the bridge could lower. I asked a local who told me it would be an hour before the next occurrence, so I didn't wait, but I was tempted. It takes 2.5 minutes... seems fast for such a long drop.
IMGP2376.JPG
A typical canal house.
IMGP2378.JPG
I laughed out loud when I turned around and saw this image right out of a kids picture book. All that was missing was the sound of its horn.
IMGP2383.JPG
A fair was setting up near my parking space. I wanted to take lots of photos, but the security people wouldn't let me in...
