The guy at the gate said that the most direct route to the top was the White Dot Trail. I learned that this simply meant "the steepest route" :-)
Yeah, I broke the rules by climbing alone... but with dozens of other hikers nearby - and a cell phone in my backpack - so I felt quite safe.
The sun almost looks like snow in this shot, which shows the easy part of the trail.
These poor tree roots must have been stepped upon by millions of feet, including mine.
I thought I might take the White Cross down if the Dot was too steep, but I didn't make it to the top, so... I "white dotted" it on the way down too.
Here's where the easy trail stopped and the steep trail began.
See the white dot?
This is looking back down the trail, to try to show some steepness.
This was typical of about 30% of the trail: large boulders, easy to scramble around.
This dot was particuarly bright.
I was out of breath by here and looked back to see the trail - and it was gone! Yep, this was a particularly steep part.
The trees had thinned out enough that I could see across the valley... but the photo doesn't quite show that.
At this point I was imagining what this would look like in a rain storm. Underwater, I bet.
Another shot that shows the trail. I was loving this.
