Long Hike in Los Padres National Park (March 27, 2009)

The trail started off so clear and obvious... but it didn't stay that way. I did a lot of guessing and backtracking so the 6 mile hike turned out to be more like 7.

The trail ran near this river much of the time.

I enjoyed the layered rocks.

Can you see the rock slide? It lasted about 10 minutes, and made me glad that my side of the river had more vegetation!

River rocks.

This was the third river crossing and the first on which I got my shoes wet. Oh well. It was a warm day :-)

These little steps were not explained.

Two hours after I started hiking, I was this close to the dam that showed up on my map.

And here's the same dam, 40 minutes later, after I'd walked to it and picked up the trail back to my camper.

My relief at knowing I wasn't lost is probably visible here :-)

This sign greeted me at the end of my hike.

This plant is new to me.

Up close it looks like little berries.

Check out the edges: bugs and tears.
