Elk/Thurston Mtn Trail, 05/29/09

I drove about 10 miles on a dirt logging road to find this trailhead in an old gravel pit.

I already knew this was an active harvest, since I shared the road with a large logging truck on my way in.

The trail was nicely done...

... and at one point, it crossed the logging road.

This was the closest the trail got to the actual logging operation.

I took a different route down from the the trail and came across these large areas that had been logged already.

This shows the Chilliwack River and the mountains to the south - and the edge of this kind of scary logging road.

It was a great hike. I hope it survives the industry.
