Shasta Dam, CA, June 2009

I was overdue for a walking break, so was happy to see signs for Shasta Dam. I've found that dams always offer something to see and do, even if it's just a stroll across a concrete wall.

This facility was great - lots of old photos and a detailed account about how the dam was constructed. I missed getting to tour the inside of the dam, but enjoyed showing myself around. On the far side of the dam was a security guy who knew a lot, and the person at the front desk was full of info, once he heard that I'm a teacher :-)

It was one of those "great sky days", so I have some photos that feature the clouds. Too many of them, in fact, but I just am not in the mood to winnow.

I had a strange experience outside the Visitor Center:
I stopped to look at a young bird on a fence. It had a huge bug in its beak that it was struggling to swallow. I was getting my camera out of my pocket when I felt something swat the top of my head. Yep: it was the momma or poppa bird, telling me to leave their kid alone. I did; no photo.
