Shasta Dam, California (6/4/9)

This photo of Mt. Shasta was taken from my moving vehicle. Pretty amazing. I thought I'd get another shot, but didn't.

And this is Shasta Dam. By some measure, it's the largest in North America. (I think it was in terms of tons of concrete.)

There was a good exhibit showing how the dam was built. Amazing how much was done with what we'd consider "primitive" technology.

This was "finished" in 1945 but the tour guide told me that concrete is still setting.

Don't walk across if you're bothered by heights - or walk on the other side, where the lake is.

Pretty valley.

Water in...

... power out.

The sign faces the lake, to warn boaters. The tour starts here, going down an elevator. I missed it by minutes :-(

The lake was lovely.

The theme of horizontal layers seems to be emerging in my favorite photos...

Here's that Scotch broom again.

I saw this sign on the way to the dam. Pretty clever way to keep people on the sidewalk!

See the ladders? Wonder who has *that* job?

There were elevation markers along one side of the dam, in the middle section. Made me wonder why.
