Heather and Matt are getting married!

Soon, they will have their own web site set up, but until then, I've agreed to be their host :-)
The wedding will be small, on a lovely beach on the North Carolina coast on Saturday, April 10, 2010.
Matt and Heather seek your good thoughts and best wishes as they embark on their journey. They also know that some family and friends will want to send gifts, so have asked me to share the following information:

Matt and Heather have both been living independently for some years, so already have much of what they need to start their new life together... but they do need to buy some furniture, so if you'd like to help them afford those items (dining room table and chairs, couches, DVD player, etc.), then feel free to do so.
If, however, you are interested in getting them a specific gift, then you might want to know that they have registered at the following. I've given you links that open a new window directly into their registers, but if you start at the top-level page, you need to know that they've registered under their new names (Heather Preston and Matthew Preston).
Below is the story of my trip around the US (June 2008 through July 2009).

Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets:
Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.

I'm back in Durham. The trip is over. Life is good.
  • I got a great teaching job via a Skype interview. (Having taught at that school some years ago surely helped.)
  • I bought a house in Durham, sight unseen, after my older daughter saw it online. (She did drive over to look, and also attended the inspection for me, so it wasn't quite as dramatic as all that.) The house is near the job that started in August 2009 and even closer to my local and favorite aunt.
  • And yes, I have pages still to create and upload - but not today :-)
Column Too

This was a good idea that I didn't maintain. Maybe later...
